Archive Encounters: Stories Told by the Artist Archivist
October 21 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join us for a special virtual brown bag lunch presentation!
Archives are full of stories and retained within them are the collective memories of organizations, communities, and corporations. Some records reveal mysteries while others serve as evidence that someone existed or simple somethings happened. Archivists care for the vast array of diverse preserved heritage, of which they are privileged to encounter unique stories on a daily basis. For over eight years, Peter Morphew has been recording his encounters with Scottish, English, and now American archive bodies through the creation of art. In this event, he will share pieces of art made, stories uncovered, and details about his international globe-trotting journey.
Peter Morphew is a professional archivist and artist. Having obtained an Archivist MSc from the University of Glasgow (Scotland); Peter has spent the last eight years working within Scottish & English business, theatre, university and governmental archive bodies. Throughout this time he has been recording his experiences within the archive through his creative practice. Peter is currently an archivist based at Berea College (Kentucky) and is also a Digital Artist in Residence with the James Ford Bell Library (University of Minnesota).
